The distribution regularity of some nonmetallic deposits along the circum-pacific belt of east China |

Abstract:The geological history of the East China Circum-Pacific belt consists of an convergent process of plates during the early stage and an eastward migration process of island during the late stage. The nonmetallic deposits in this area therefore possess their own minerogenetic regularity in time and space. Before Mesozoic, the deposits related to the convergence of Paleoplares and sedimen ration in the marginal sea were formed, occurring in south-north direction; since Mesozoic, the deposits associated with the volcanic weathering or sedimen ration in the island arc and back-arc rift have been formed, occurring in east-west direction. Some nonmetallic deposits in this area are stratabound ones, and some bear the characteristics of polystages, diversity in types and superim-position, which must have been related to the geotectonic evolution features of East China. The Circum-Pacific belt of East China is characterized by rich nonmetallic deposits, such as abundant industrial limestone, industrial sandstone, kaolin, bentonite, zeolite, gypsum, talc and graphire, as well as a certain amount of mica and asbestos. Every type of nonmetallic deposits might be further assigned to a variety of genetic types with each genetic type has its peculiar ore-forming conditions, geological features, mineral characters and industrial utilizations. Different nonmetallic ore sources and their various genetic types are distributed regularly in time and space. and an investigation into the regularities might throw light on ore prospecting and the study of ore genesis. |
