Abstract:Located in the tuff distribution area on the outer edge of Emeishan basalt in so uthwest Guizhou, the Nibao gold deposit is a fine_disseminated gold deposit. Bas ed on a field investigation and integrated analysis of strata, rocks, structures , ore bodies, and minerals, the authors probed into the major controlling facto rs and the ore_forming process, with the purpose of providing reference data for further ore_prospecting work. The results show that the main gold ore bodies we re produced near the interruption of sedimentation between Maokou Formation and Emeishan Basalt, which is a characteristic ore_forming combination composed of o re source bed, fluid passageway and ore_hosting space. There exist tuff with abu ndant organic materials at the bottom of P2_3β1_1 and hydrothe rmal exhalation breccias between P2_3β1_1 and Dachang quart z rock, which constitute main ore_containing space and ore_hosting rocks. The re sults of isotopic determinations suggest that the sulfur in pyrite and basalt ca me from the mantle, and the low salinity and intermediate_low temperature ore_fo rming fluids with rich SiO2 and K+ were formed by the circulation of atmosph eric water along the fissures. M ineralization took place in Late Jurassic (142 Ma). The deposit is one of the ea rliest_discovered gold deposits in southwest Guizhou.
