Abstract:Lots of volcanic_hosted massive sulfide deposits were found along the Aketashi_S aluoyi metallogenic belt in the Aoyitake_Qiaerlong rifted depression within the West Kunlun Mountains of Xinjiang. These deposits, which can be obviously divide d into basic and acid volcanic types, are present in the Carboniferous bi_model volcanic series and occur along two horizons, i.e., the Lower Carboniferous mafi c volcanic rock and the Upper Carboniferous felsic volcanic rock. The ores are a ll dominated by Cu with minor Zn, and the deposits are classified as the Cu type . All the mafic and felsic volcanic_hosted massive sulfide deposits are therefor e defined as the Kunlun type volcanic_hosted massive copper sulfide deposit. Bas ed on geological environment, bi_model volcanic series, sedimentary formation an d geochemical features of volcanic rocks, it is held that the deposits were most probably formed in the Carboniferous back arc rifted environment.
