Abstract:The study of the Lemachang silver deposit was a major reconnaissance project for 8th "Five Year Plan" assigned by Ministry of Geology and Mineral Resources. The reconnais-sance and ore-prospecting made remarkable breakthrough, and the ore deposit was proved to be of large size. Based on years of field practice, the authors found that the ore deposit is an independent silver deposit rarely seen both in China and abroad, thus belonging to a unique type. Through a thorough study of the geological characteristics and the mode of occurrence of the ore deposit, the author has also acquired some new understanding. According to the geological setting or the Lemachang silver deposit, this paper deals emphatically with geological characteristics and ore-forming geological activity of the ore deposit, and points out that the Lemachang deposit is an independent silver deposit in a shatter-alteration zone of imbricated thrusting-napping faults, with its mineralization expriencing the paleostructure-sedimentation ( the formation of the source bed ) stage and the strcutral-hydrothermal (filling-metasomatic enrichment) stage, and the structural activity controlling the silver mineralization and the eventual location of the silver orebody. All these opinions arc of important indicating significance in the prospecting of silver and lead-zinc deposits in northeastern Yunnan.
